between jobs!

I'm home this week... wild. Working out, cleaning, reading, studying, walking about town... generally doing whatever comes to mind.

I'm also going out in the middle of the week! I'm looking for partners-in-crime... anyone interested in staying up late-ish on a week night? Or perhaps something less sleep-depriving during the day or evening?

Tuesday starts the new adventure at the downtown "start up". I am anxious and excited.

new chapter...
Next month I'll return to the same office space I left 2.5 years ago in Pioneer Square for a new role as Director of Design and Usability for Wetpaint (www.wetpaint.com). It wasn't so much the shwag they sent as the opportunity. And the oddness of the opportunity presented by the present employer.

I'll be happy to be downtown again, even if it means less carpooling with mace5000.

Please stop in if you're interested in dialog on the strange, the scientific, the occult, spirituality, philosophy, or all manner of metaphysics. Contact me for specifics.

Class on Sunday
I'll host a discussion class this coming Sunday, June 1st at 5:00 pm in my home in the northgate area. Contact me if you're interested.

The role of philosophy in spiritual pursuits - We talk a lot about philosophy in these classes - and metaphysics as a branch of philosopy - while many tend to dive into more esoteric studies of spirituality and the like. Philosophy plays an primary role in a person's grasp of what exists beyond those things that are physical and observable. We'll discuss how and why.

gorgeous.
A wonderful weekend was spent on Lopez Island. Truly beautiful... peaceful, relaxing, fun and productive. We cleaned the place up a bit more in preparation for summer guests. Let us know if you want to plan a weekend! The next 5 are spoken for, but I'd love to get a larger group in before the boat has to leave the Anacortes slip in mid July. Interested?

It's been a while since I've hosted a class. I'm thinking about Friday, May 30th or Sunday, June 1st. If you're interested, feel free to say if one evening or the other works well for you. I'll post a time and topic when I'm ready (for background, see previous class posts).

Happy fleeting summer preview.

back and better...
REALLY glad for the chance to participate in the annual IA Summit last weekend in Miami. Not only was it well worth while professionally, it was a helluvalota fun. Spent Sunday night in South Beach with a like-minded crew of Germans, Danes, Dutch, a Brit, a South African, and a handful of Americans. Not much rest for 3 intense days - plus long travel times - but I feel 100% better regardless. Yip!

Looking forward to seeing friends of the local variety on Friday.

6:44 pm
*cough* *cough*
I've been rediculously sick for nearly a week. I'm in denial. It still seems like it's not that bad and I'll be recovered by tomorrow. It just isn't happening. I've lost 3 days of work already and I can't imagine anyone wants to see me tomorrow, given how horrible I sound.

mace5000 thinks it's just a cold. The doc said it's a virus (non-specific)... no sign of infection or anything serious. It doesn't feel like the sort of cold I've had before. Thankfully no fever (chills, yes, but not due to fever). Hope all of you can avoid this one.

class tomorrow
Tomorrow we will go deeper into the discussion of relationships. We'll continue the talk of some of the terms we were covering last time and tie it back to the basis of metaphysics. Please let me know if plan to participate.

The specific topic is still under development -- if you need to know, contact me Thursday evening. All with interest in discussion and debate about the nature of the universe, our place in it, what we know, and the like, are welcome to participate. There's a good chance we'll land at the merc afterwards. Hope to see you here... and there.

motivation... and the lack thereof

It's been ages since I posted anything remotely personal, so I thought I'd pick a topic and post tonight.

I've been thinking a lot about personal motivation lately.

discussion class on Sunday, 6:00pm
We will dissect several terms that apply to relationships with regards to how they're used and misused, and what value the concepts themselves bring to relationships. Some of these include: attraction, communication, commitment, negotiation, compromise, responsibility, loyalty (and faithfulness), compassion, empathy (and sympathy), forgive (and forget), love, hate, selfishness (or self-centered).

This Sunday at 6:00pm at my home in the northgate area. Any with interest are welcome to participate.

next class: Sunday, January 20th
I am moving the next class to Sunday, January 20th at 6:00pm in my home in the northgate area (not this weekend).

Terms for human interaction:
We will discuss terms - such as "forgive", "forget" and "commitment" - that apply to human interactions. We'll talk about what words like these mean, how they're used, and what value they might bring to relationships. Please suggest similar terms we can include on the list. Let me know if you would like to participate!

Hope to see you soon.

move coming... want pizza?
We're moving this coming Sunday, November 25th. We have an ambulance (e.g. really large van) and only one block to move to. Anyone who can help will be warmly welcomed with pizza and beer!

We only need a little help. I know a couple of you already volunteered... :)

EDIT: We're also looking for one person to help load carpet etc into the ambulance tomorrow night, Tuesday, for a dump run.
